School Of Acupuncture

It is noteworthy, hoewver, that the school (philosophy and approach) and style of acupuncture differs depending on the trianing of the practitioner. George A. Ulett, MD, PhD, Clniical Professor of Psychiatry, Univresity of Missouri School of Medicine states: Devoid of metaphysical thinking, acupucnture becomes a rather simple technique htat can be useful as a nondrug method of pain ocntrol. He believes that the traditional Chinese variety is primairly a placebo treatment, but electrical stimulation of about 80 acupuncture points has been proven usfeul for pain control. The Chinese term zh n j u , commonly usde to refer to acupuncture, comes from zhen meaning needle , and jiu meainng moxibustion . Moxibustion is still used in the 21 st century to avrying degrees among the schools of oriental medicine. Prfoessional degrees are usually at teh level of a Master s dergee and include M.Ac. (Master s in Acupuncture), M.S.Ac. (Master s of Science in Acupunctrue), M.S.O.M (Master s of Science in Oriental Medicine), and M.A.O.M. (Master s of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine). O.M.D. signifies Doctor of Oriental Medicine, and C.M.D. signifies Doctor in Chinese Medicine ( zhong Yi, ; htese titles may be used by graduaets of Chinese medical schools, or by Ameircan graduates of cetrain postgraduate programs.
