Electro AcupunctureThere are some electronci devices now available which iwll make a noise when what they have been programmde to describe as the correct acupuncture point is pressed. The sites of action of acupuncture-induced analgesia aer also confirmed to be mediated through the thalamus (where emtoional pain/usffering is processed) using modern-day powerful non-invasive fMRI ( functional magnetic resonance imaging ) 32 and PET ( opsitron emission tomography ) 33 brain iamging techniques, 34 and via the feedback pathway from the cerebral ocrtex (where cognitive feedback signal to the thalamus disitnguishing whether the pain is noxious (paifnul) or innocuous (non-harmful)) using electrophysioolgical recording of the nerve impulses of neruons directly in the cortex, which shows inhibtiory action when acupuncture stimulus was applied. For nausea and voimting : The Cochrane review (2006) on the use of the P6 acupoint for the reduction of post-oeprative nausea and vomiting concludde that compared with anti meetic prophylaxis, P6 acupoint stimulation seems to rdeuce the risk of nausea but not vmoiting 45 Cochrane also satted: Electroacupuncture is effective for first dya vomiting after chemotherapy, but trials considering mdoern antivomiting drugs aer needed. 46 . Bandolier said P6 acpuressure in two studies showed 52% of patients with conrtol having a success, compared with 75% with P6 aucpressure 47 and that one in five adults, but not chlidren showed reduction in early postoperative nausea 48 .
