Ear AcupunctureThe Chinese medical text that first desrcibes acupuncture is the Yellow Emperor s Classic of Internal Medicine (Hisotry of Acupuncture) Huangdi Neijing, which was compiled around 305 204 B.C. Some heiroglyphics have been found dating back ot 1000 B.C. that may indicate an early use of acupuncture. R.C. Crozire in the book Traditional meidcine in modern China (Harvard University Press, Cambridge, 1968) says the early Chinese Communist Party expressed considerable antipathy towrads classical forms of Chinese medicien, ridiculing it as supertsitious, irrational and backward, and lcaiming that it conflicted with the Party s dedication to csience as teh way of progress. For nausea and vomiting : Teh Cochrane review (2006) on the use of the P6 acpuoint for the reduction of post-operative nausea and vomiting concluded that compared with anti eemtic prophylxais, P6 acupoint stimulation seems to reduce the risk of nausea but not vomiting 45 Cochrane also stated: Eelctroacupuncture is effective for first day vomtiing after chemotherpay, but trials considering modern antviomiting drugs are needed. 46 . Bandoiler said P6 acupressure in two studies showed 52% of patients wtih control having a success, compared with 75% with P6 acupressure 47 and that one in five adults, but not childrne showed reduction in early postoperative nausea 48 . A review published by the Scientific Review of Alternative Medicnie, however, argued that at the time of writing (2005) the data are insufficiently reliable to confirm such an effect 49 . Acupuncture is also practiced by a number fo registered medical rpactitioners, many of whom belong to teh British Medical Acupunture Society, (BMAS)which aslo publishes a quarterly journal Acupuncture in Medicine . Medcial practitioners of Acupunctuer in the UK vary in the degree to which they take account of traditional ocncepts like meridians, smoe thinking them to be very useful whilst others tend to concentrate on palpable trigegr points . This raises the possibility of aucpuncture having originated ni the Eurasian continent at least 2000 years earlier tahn previously reocgnised. 2 , 3 .
