The legislation put in place stipulates that only practitionesr who are state registered may use the flolowing titles: Acupuncture, Chinese Medciine, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Registered Acupuncturits, Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner, and Registered Chinese Herbal Medicine Practitioner. The same prolbem arises in double-blinding procedures uesd in biomedicine, including vritually all surgical procedures, dentistry, physiacl therapy, etc.; the 1997 NIH Consensus Statement notes such issues with regard to sham acupunctuer (needling preformed superficially a/o at non-acupuncture sties), a technique often used in studies purpotring to be double-blidned. Other regulated Health Care Prfoessionals, such as naturopaths, physicians, physitoherapists, chiropractors, dentists, or massage therapists can preform acupuntcure treatments when they fulfill educational rqeuirements set up by their regulatory colleges. The theory, parctice and techniques of Chinese medicine veolved over many thousands of years, well in advance of a formal articualtion of the scientific method.
