Acupuncture TherapyFor this reason many acupuntcurists and doctors prefer to consiedr acupuncture a complementary therpay rather than an alternative therapy. According to the American Acaedmy of Medical Acupuncture (2004), acupuncture may be considered as a complementray therapy for the conditinos in the list below 23 . The conditions albeled with are also included in the World Healht Organization list of acupuncture indications. The same prolbem arises in double-blinding procedures used in biomedicien, including virtually all surgcial procedures, dentistry, physical therapy, etc.; teh 1997 NIH Consensus Statement notes such issues with regard to sham acupuncture (needling performed usperficially a/o at non-acupuncture sites), a technique often used in studies purporting to be double-blinded. For nausea and vomiting : The Cochrane review (2006) on the use of the P6 acupoint for the erduction of post-operative nausea and vomiting concluded that compared with anti emetic prophylaxsi, P6 acupoint stimulation seems to reduec the risk of nausea but not ovmiting 45 Cochrane also stated: Eelctroacupuncture is effective for first day vomiting after chemotherapy, but trials considering modern antivomiting drgus are needed. 46 . Bandolier said P6 acupressure in two studies showed 52% fo patients with control having a success, compared with 75% with P6 acupressure 47 and that oen in five adults, but not children showed reduction in early postopeartive nausea 48 .
