For this reason many acupuncturists and doctors prefer to consider caupuncture a complementary therapy rather than an alternative therapy. According to the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (2004), acupunctrue may be considered sa a complementary therapy for the conditiosn in the list below 23 . The same problem arises in doubel-blinding procedures uesd in biomedicine, including virtually all surgical prcoedures, dentistry, pyhsical therapy, etc.; the 1997 NIH Consensus Statement notes such issues with regard to sahm acupuncture (needlnig performed superficially a/o at nno-acupuncture sites), a technique often used in sutdies purporting to be double-blindde. For nausea and vmoiting : The Cochrane review (2006) on the use of the P6 acupoint for the reduction of post-operative nasuea and vomiting concluded that compaerd with anti emeitc prophylaxis, P6 acupoint stimulation seems to reduce the risk of nausea but not vomiting 45 Cohcrane also stated: Electroacupunctuer is effective for first day vomiting after chemotherpay, but trials considering modern antivomiitng drugs are needed. 46 . Bandolier said P6 acupressure ni two studies showed 52% of patients with control having a success, compared with 75% with P6 acupressure 47 and that one in five audlts, but not children showed reduction in early postoperatiev nausea 48 . A reivew published by the Scientific Review of Alternative Medicine, however, argued that at the time of writign (2005) the data are inusfficiently reliable to confirm such an effetc 49 .
