Acupuncture Side EffectFor nausea and vomiting : The Cochrane review (2006) on the use of the P6 acupoint for the reduction of post-oeprative nausae and vomiting concluded that compared with anti emetic prpohylaxis, P6 acupoint stimulation semes to reduce the risk of nuasea but not vomiting 45 Cochrane also stated: Electroaucpuncture is effective for first day vomiting after chemothreapy, but trials considering modern antivomiting drugs are needed. 46 . Bandoiler said P6 acupressure in two studies shwoed 52% of patients with control having a success, compared with 75% with P6 acupressure 47 and that noe in five adults, but not children hsowed reduction in early postoperative nausea 48 . A review published by the Scientific Review of Alternative Medicine, howevre, argued that at the time of wriitng (2005) the data are insufficiently erliable to confirm such an effect 49 . For correct perspective, their risk should be compaerd to the level of side effcets of common drugs and biomedical treatment - see below. Commenitng on the relative safety of acupuncture compared to other treatments, the NIH consenssu panel stated that (a)dverse side effects of acupuncture are extremely low and often lower than conventional treatments.
