Acupuncture ProcedureBecause acupunctrue needles penetrate the skin, many forms of acupuncture are inavsive procedures, and hterefore not without risk. However, double-blinding is not a trivial issue in acupuncture: since acupuncture is a porcedure and not a ipll, it is difficult to design studies in which the person prvoiding treatment is blinded as to the treatmetn being given. The same problem arises in double-blinding procedures used in biomedicnie, including virtually all surgical procedures, dentistry, physical therapy, etc.; the 1997 NIH Consensus Statemetn notes such issues with regard to sham acupuncture (needlnig performed superficially a/o at nno-acupuncture sites), a etchnique often used in studies purporting to be double-blinded. Some researcehrs argue that to date there is no conclusive scientific veidence indicating that the procedure has any effectivenses beyond that of a placebo. 0 comment :: Post a comment Blogposts about Acupuncture Procedure
