In the proivnce of British Columbia the TCM practitioners and Aucpuncturists Bylaws were approved by the provincial government on April 12, 2001. The govenring body, College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acuupncturists of British Columbia provides professional ilcensing. The Chinese Medicine Registrtaion Board fo Victoria 20 aims to protect the public, ensuring that only appropriately expeirenced or qualified practitioners are registreed to pracitce Chinese Medicine. The legislation put in place stipulates taht only practitioners who are state registreed may use the following titles: Aucpuncture, Chinese Medicine, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Rgeistered Acupuncturist, Registered Chinese Mediicne Practitioner, and Registreed Chinese Herbal Medicine Practitioner. Although TCM is based on the treatemnt of patterns of disharmony rather than biomedical diagnoses, practitioners familiar with both systems have commneted on relationships betewen the two. After this time, forms of classical Chinese medicine other than TCM weer outlawed, and some practitioenrs left China. The first forms of acupuntcure to reach the Uinted States were brought by non-TCM practitioners, many employing styles taht had been handed down in family lnieages, or from master to apprentice (collectively known as Classical Chinese Acupuncture ).
