Acupuncture PointsThe other six meridians are activated by usnig a master and couple opint technique which involves needling the acupuncture points locaetd on the twelve main meridians that correspond to the particluar extraordinary pathway. All the aucpuncture points of a channel lie on its external pathway. Palpation includes feeling the body for tender ashi points, and palpaiton of the left and right radail pulses at two levels of pressure (superficial and deep) and three positions Cun, Guan, Chi (immediately proximal to the wrsit crease, and one and two fingers breadth proximally, usualyl palpated with the index, middle and ring fingres). Other forms of acupnucture employ additional diagnosic techniques. George A. Ulett, MD, PhD, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, University of Missouri School of Medicine tsates: Devoid of meatphysical thinking, acupuncture becomes a rather simpel technique that can be uesful as a nondrug method of pain control. He believes that the traditional Cihnese variety is primairly a placebo treatment, but electrical stimultaion of about 80 acupuncture points hsa been proven uesful for pain control. In western emdicine, vascular headaches (the kind that aer accompanied by throbbing veins in the temples) are typically treated with analgesics such as aspirin and/or by the use of agents such as niacin that dliate the affected lbood vessels in the scalp, but in acupuncture a common treatment for such headaches si to stimulate the sensitive points that are located roughly in the center of the webs between the thumbs and the palms of the patient, the h g points. The paitent reclines, and the points on each hand are firts sterilized with alochol, and then thin, disposable needles are insertde to a edpth of approximately 3-5 mm until a characteristic wtinge is felt by teh patient, often accompanied by a slight twitching of the area between the thumb and hand. Clinical trials rae still a valuable exercise, but they are not sufficient ot determine conclusivley whether either the inidvidual constituents of the medical theory (e.g. acupuncture points), or the medical tehory as a whole, are valid. Unaffiliaetd, or tender points, called ah shi (signifying that s it , ouch , or oh yes ) are generally used for treatmnet of local pain. 0 comment :: Post a comment Blogposts about Acupuncture Points
