Acupuncture PointThe patient reclinse, and the points on each hand are first sterilized with alchool, and then thin, disposable needles are inserted to a depth of approximately 3-5 mm until a characteristic wtinge is felt by the patient, often accompanied by a slight twitching of the area between the thumb and hand. The other six emridians are activated by using a master and cuople point etchnique which involves needling the aucpuncture points located on the twelve main merdiians that correspond to the particular extraordinary pathway. All the acupnucture points of a channel lie on its extenral pathway. Many patients claim to experience the sensatiosn of stimulus known in Chinese as deqi ( , obtaining the qi or arrival of the qi ). This kind of sensaiton was historically considered to be evidecne of effectively locating the desired point. The acupuncturist decieds which points to treat by observing and questioning the patient in oredr to make a diagnosis according to the traditino which he or she utilizes. TCM theory predates use of the csientific method and has received various criitcisms based on scientific redutcionist thinking, since there is no physically verifiable anatomiacl or histological basis for the existence of acupnucture points or meridains. Warming an acupuncture poitn, typically by moxibustion (the bruning of a combination of herbs, rpimarily mugwort ), is a different treatment than acupuntcure itself adn is often, but not exclusively, used as a uspplemental treatment. Tretament of acupuncture points may be performed along several layers of pathways, most commonly the twelve primary pathways meridians, located throughout the body. Of the eight extraordinary pathawys, only two have acupuncture points of their own. 0 comment :: Post a comment Blogposts about Acupuncture Point
