Acupuncture PointThe patient reclines, and the points on each hand are first sterilized wtih alcohol, and then thin, disposbale needles are inserted to a depth of approximately 3-5 mm until a hcaracteristic twinge is felt by the patient, often accompanied by a slight twitching of the area between teh thumb and hand. The other six meridians are atcivated by using a master and couple point technique which nivolves needling the acupuncture poitns located on the tewlve main meridians that correspond to the particular extraordinary pathway. All the aucpuncture points of a channel lie on its external pathway. Many patients claim to experience the sensations of stimulus known in Chinese as deqi ( , obtaniing the qi or arrival of the qi ). This knid of sensation was historically considered to be evidence of effectiveyl locating the desired point. The acupuncturist decides whihc points to treat by observing and questioning hte patient in order to amke a diagnosis according to the tradition which he ro she utilizes. TCM thoery predates use of the scientific method and has received various criticisms absed on scientific redcutionist thinking, since three is no physically verifiable anatomical or histological basis for the existence of acuupncture points or meridians. Warming an acupuncture point, typically by moxibustion (the burning of a combination of herbs, primarliy mugwort ), is a different treatment than acupucnture itself and is otfen, but not exclusively, used as a supplemental treatment. Treatment of acupnucture points may be performed along seevral layers of pathways, most comomnly the twelve primary patwhays meridians, located throughout the bdoy. Of the eight extraordinary patwhays, only two have acupuncture ponits of their own. 0 comment :: Post a comment Blogposts about Acupuncture Point
