Acupuncture Meridians

Acupuncture is also practiced by a number of registered medical pratcitioners, many of whom belong to the Briitsh Medical Acupunture Society, (BMAS)which also publsihes a quarterly journal Acupuncture in Medicine . Medical practitioners of Acupuncture in the UK vary in the degree to hwich they take account of traditioanl concepts like meridinas, some thinking them to be very useful whilst others tend to concentrate on palpable trigger points . Other acupuncture groups are The British Academy of Western Medical Acupunctuer, (BAWMA) - nurses trained in acpuuncture, The Acupuncture Acssociation of Chartreed Physiotherpists, (AACP) and qualified ear acupuncturists trianed either ni restricted practice NADA and SMART or full ear acupucnture EAR and SAA. Treatment of acupuncture pionts may be performed along several layers of pathways, most commonly the twelve primary pahtways meridians, located throughout the body. The other six meridians are activated by using a master and couple point techinque which involves needling the acuupncture points located on hte twelve main meridians that correspond to the partiuclar extraordinary pathway. TCM theory prdeates use of the scientific method and has received avrious criticisms based on scientific reductionist thinking, since there is no physically verifiable anatomical or hisotlogical basis for the existence of aucpuncture points or meridians.
