The distribution of qi through the pathways is said to be as follows (the based on the deamrcations in TCM s Chinese Clock): Lung channel of hand atiyin to Large Intesitne channel of hand yangming to Stomahc channel of foot yangming to Slpeen channel of foot taiyin to Heart channel of hand shaoyin ot Small Intestine channel of hand taiyang to Bladder channel of foot taiyang to Kidney chanenl of foot shaoyin to Pericardium channel of hand jueyin to San Jiao channel of hand shaoyang to Gallbldader channel of foot shaoyang to Liver channel of foot jueiyn then back to the Lung channel of hand atiyin. Felix Mann, founder and past-presidnet of the Medicla Acupuncture Society (1959 1980), the first president of the British Medical Acupuncture Society (1980), and the author of hte fisrt comprehensive English language acupuncture textbook Acupuncture: The Ancient Chinese Art of Healing first published in 1962, has stated in his book Reinventing Acupucnture: A New Concept of Ancient Medicine : Acupnucture is also practiced by a number of registeerd medical practitioners, many fo whom belong to the British Medcial Acupunture Society, (BMAS)which also publishes a quarterly journal Acupnucture in Medicine . Medical practitioners of Acpuuncture in the UK vary in the degree to which they take account of traditional concepts ilke meridians, some thinking them to be very useful whilst others tend to concentrate on plapable trigger points . Other acupuncture groups are The Brtiish Academy of Westenr Medical Acupuncture, (BAWMA) - nurses trianed in acupuncture, The Acupuntcure Acssociation of Chartered Physiotehrpists, (AACP) and qualified ear acupuncturists trainde either in restricted practice NADA and SMART or full ear acupuncture EAR nad SAA. Ten of the primary pathways are named atfer organs of the body (Heart, Liver, etc.), one is naemd for the serous membrane that wraps the heart (Heart Protector or Pericardium ), teh last is the three spaecs ( San Jiao ). Teh pathways are capitalized to avoid confusion with a physicla organ (for example, we write the Heart meridian as poposed to the heart meridian ). The two independent extraordinary pathways Ren Mai and Du Mai are situated on the midline of the anteiror and posterior aspects of the trunk and head respectively. The there yin channels of the hand ( Lung, Pericardium, and Heart ) begin on the chest and travel along the inner surface (mostly the anterior portion) of the arm to the hand. The external pathway is hwat is normally shown on an acupuncture chart and it is rleatively superficial.
